Summer Break is Coming!
School is nearly out in Escondido
San Pasqual Union School District (SPUSD) has their last day of classes tomorrow, June 9, while the Escondido Union School District (EUSD) and the Escondido Union High School District (EUHSD) finish on Wednesday, June 10.
High schools are holding graduation ceremonies on Wednesday, June 10, with the exception of Valley High School whose graduation is Tuesday, June 9.
Bear Valley Middle School, Del Dios Academy, Quantum Academy, and San Pasqual Union Elementary School are holding 8th grade promotion ceremonies the evening of Tuesday, June 9.
Hidden Valley Middle School, Mission Middle School and Rincon Middle School are holding their 8th grade promotion ceremonies the morning of Wednesday, June 10.
Although there won’t be many school activities to share this summer, I will continue to share upcoming school board meetings and other family friendly activities over the summer.
Summer Reading
Reading over the summer is a great way to help kids maintain their literacy skills over the summer and prevent the “summer slide”. Here in Escondido and nearby, there are many summer reading programs to encourage kids to read. You can participate in at least 3 library summer reading programs without traveling further than Rancho Bernardo and if you have children in grades 1-6, be sure to check out the Barnes & Nobel Summer Reading Program.
Happy Reading!
Escondido Library
June 1 - August 16
This year’s summer reading challenge is titled “Unearth a Story”.
There are challenges for all age groups, from babies to adults, with prize drawings each week. You can sign up for the challenge and see more details here.
Note: The library is moving back!
The Escondido Library has been located in the Mershops Mall since last May while the main building has undergone renovations. The last day the library will be open in the mall is Saturday, June 27, 2026. Library services will resume at the Pioneer Room on Monday, June 29 while library staff work to move all the books back to the main library. There will be a ribbon cutting on August 1 and the main library will reopen Monday, August 3 with open hours 7 days per week - yes, including Sunday!
Barnes & Noble
July 1 - August 31
Barnes & Noble has a Summer Reading Journal that students in Grades 1-6 can fill out to earn a free book after reading 8 books. You can pick up a journal in store or follow this link to print one out. Although this program is designed to get families to come into the bookstore, you do not need to purchase any books to participate!
Earn a free book through the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program for kids in Grades 1–6!
SIMPLY FOLLOW THESE EASY STEPS:
1.Each time you complete two books (one matchup on your journal), bring your journal to your local Barnes & Noble store. You’ll receive an exclusive Summer Reading sticker and create a recommendation slip for your favorite of the two books — your recommendation slip will be displayed in the store!
2. Return after each completed matchup to collect your sticker and share another recommendation. Be sure to check out other kids’ recommendation slips for ideas on what to read next.
3. After completing all four matchups on your journal, you’ll complete your full sticker collection and earn a special Barnes & Noble Champion sticker. Keep your journal so you can look back on all the great books you read this summer.
4. Finally, select a book from the list below to receive for free!
